Red Line MT-LV is a full-synthetic ester-based lubricant formulated for manual transmissions and front-wheel-drive transaxles. Its shear-stable chemistry maintains consistent viscosity across a wide temperature range, reducing gear noise and improving shift quality.
Red Line has introduced this middle-weight oil for manual and SMG transmissions that slots in between an ATF D4 and MTL. In the Red Line product range, it's closest to the OE BMW LT-2 and LT-3 that is becoming harder to source.
This fluid is also used in the xDrive all-wheel drive transfer case on many modern BMW models.
The fluid is engineered to deliver an optimal synchronizer coefficient of friction, ensuring quick, crisp shifts even when cold. It lacks the reactive sulfurs found in most GL-5 oils, making it safe for brass synchros and preventing corrosive wear.
Low fluid friction improves power transfer, while robust film strength extends synchro life and wear protection. MT-LV also meets the gear-oil viscosity requirements for both 70W and 75W grades under API GL-4, GL-3, and GL-1 service classifications.
